The Rothschild story begins in Frankfurt, where Mayer Amschel Rothschild (born 1744), a coin dealer, became Court Agent to the court of Hesse-Cassel in 1769. He sent his five sons to run family houses in Frankfurt, Vienna, London, Naples and Paris — the five arrows later seen in the family arms. Nathan, the son who went to England, was born in Frankfurt with a Mu-Earth (戊土) Day Master — the mountain, steady and load-bearing — seated on a Sin (申) Metal branch. His Saju (Four Pillars) reads 丁酉 for the year, 己酉 for the month and 戊申 for the day; his birth hour was not published, so this reading uses the year, month and day pillars only. Metal (2.5) and Earth (2.2) dominate his Five Elements, with Fire at 1.0, Water at 0.3 and no Wood at all, and the engine rates his Day Master as weak. His London house came into its own in the Eulsa (乙巳) 10-year Luck Cycle (Daeun), 1810–1819.
Nathan's chart is dominated by Output stars: Hurting Officer (傷官) on both the year and month branches (酉) and Eating God (食神) on the 申 day branch — three Metal branches that an Earth Day Master produces. Output stars describe skill put to work: trading, dealing, logistics, getting things done. So much energy spent outward is consistent with the engine rating the Day Master weak.
A Direct Resource (正印) on the 丁 year stem — Fire, the element that generates Earth — gives backing and credibility, and a Rob Wealth (劫財) on the 己 month stem, the star of peers and siblings, is a fitting symbol for a business built by five brothers in five cities. The 酉–酉 self-punishment between the year and month branches suggests a restless, self-demanding drive.
Water, the element an Earth Day Master controls and the classic marker of wealth, scores only 0.3. The Eulsa (乙巳) cycle brought 巳 Fire — the same element as his natal Direct Resource — to support a weak Earth Day Master: the decade in which his house moved gold for the British government and began issuing major government loans.
After Nathan: Nathan died in 1836. In 1875 his son Lionel de Rothschild advanced £4 million to Disraeli's government to buy the Khedive's Suez Canal shares, and the loan was repaid within five months. As this lies outside Nathan's lifetime, it is not read against his chart.
