Short answer: Saju compatibility (궁합, gunghap) compares two people's full birth charts. Instead of matching only zodiac animals, it looks at how the two charts' Five Elements balance each other, how the two Day Masters relate, and whether the Earthly Branches combine or clash.
Three things a reader compares
- Five Elements balance — does one person have plenty of an element the other lacks?
- Day Master relationship — do the two Day Masters support or control each other?
- Branch combinations and clashes — certain pairs of Earthly Branches are traditionally read as combining (합) or clashing (충).
Zodiac-only matching is a rough guide
Animal-sign charts use only one of eight characters per person. Two people with a "bad" animal match can still have charts that complement each other, and the reverse is also true.
It describes, it does not decide
Compatibility readings describe tendencies — how two people may differ in pace or style. They are not a verdict on a relationship.
Try it
Compare two birth dates on the compatibility page. The reading is calculated from the dates you enter.
Frequently asked questions
Q. Do we need birth times?
Dates are enough for a basic reading; times add the hour pillar.
Q. Is a clash (충) always bad?
No. It is read as change or friction that can be balanced by the rest of the chart.
Q. Is zodiac compatibility the same as Saju compatibility?
No. Zodiac matching uses one character; Saju uses the whole chart.
